Bradford College Monuments

Several Bradford College monuments and markers are currently being created:

The first marker was erected in front of Kimball Tavern on April 29, 2010.  The new owners of Kimball Tavern, the Woods Family, are long time residents of Bradford.  They have resurrected a buried mill stone from the Kimball property.  The family invited the Bradford Alumni Association to create and install a bronze marker to commemorate the location of the founding of Bradford Academy in 1803.  Funding for this marker was made possible by generous donations from Bradford College Alumni. A Bradford College monument is being planned for the Bradford Common.  The Bradford Common is owned by the Congregational Church that stands across the street.  The church has agreed to have an obelisk installed on the common that would outline the three major campus time periods -  Bradford Academy, Bradford Junior College and Bradford College.  The obelisk would stand approximately 7 feet tall on a base of granite.  Dates for the installation of this monument are forthcoming. The final marker for Bradford is being discussed with Zion College.  Dr. Charles Crabtree, President of Zion College, has suggested that there be a marker at the "heart of campus" to commemorate the 197 year old Bradford institution.  Initial concept drawings are being prepared and will be discussed at the All-Class Reunion, October 8-10, 2010.  The Bradford Alumni Association is endeavoring to fund this monument and hopes to incorporate elements of our Bradford history.  Donations for each of these Bradford monuments are actively being sought.
